Tax Incentives for Energy Efficiency

Tax incentives are available for homeowners and businesses that purchase and install energy-efficient equipment or make energy efficiency improvements to homes and buildings. On this page you'll find links to information on tax incentives for residential and commercial buildings, including qualified software available for calculating commercial building tax deductions.

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPACT) provided a variety of tax credits for energy efficiency and renewable energy. The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, which was signed into law October 3, 2008, extended, amended, and added to provisions in EPACT.

The Department of Energy (DOE) also provides a list of qualified software that commercial building owners can use to calculate energy and power cost savings that meet federal tax incentive requirements.
