Republicans opposed the Democrat's "stimulus" bill because the government cannot spend and borrow its way to economic prosperity.

Under the legislation, the Democrats are taking money from hard working Americans and giving it to their key advocacy groups.  The housing provisions in the Democrat's bill make ACORN, who is under criminal investigation for voter fraud in 12 states, eligible for billions of taxpayer dollars.

Rushed through Congress and bypassing regular order, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) concluded that the less than half the money would be spent in the next two years.  An analysis of housing provisions by the House Financial Services Committee staff also found billions in delayed spending.

Republicans believe that broad based, job creating tax cuts would have a much more stimulative effect than slow wasteful Washington spending.  Tax cuts allow small businesses, working families and individuals to spend more of their own money.  Allowing Americans to spend or invest their own money is a better alternative to get the economy back on track.
