FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, May 05, 2009
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement in honor of Public Service Recognition Week, celebrated May 4-10, 2009. The House today passed a resolution (H. Res 299) commending public servants for their dedication and continued service to the Nation during this week and throughout the year. "Every day, millions of public service employees help keep our nation running, from police departments and schools to the protection of our shores and the administration of critical public programs. And every year, we pay tribute to their dedication with Public Service Recognition Week. "This week we honor the first responders, teachers, social workers, park rangers, and so many more federal, state, and local government employees who do so much for our Nation each day, with little expectation of recognition or reward. Approximately 50,000 public employees live in my district in Maryland, and I want to especially recognize their hard work. I hope that everyone will take this week to thank public servants for their contributions and their commitment." ###
