8th District Congressman and Former Phillies Crew Member Offers Condolences and Honors Nearly 4 Decades of the Voice of the Philadelphia Phillies

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, following the tragic death of legendary Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas, Pennsylvania Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-8th District) issued the following statement:

“For anyone who grew up listening to the memorable calls and legendary voice of Harry Kalas like I did, this is a very sad day. For thousands of kids and those young at heart, who spent countless summer nights glued to their radios, Harry Kalas was the Philadelphia Phillies. I would like to offer my deepest condolences for Kalas family and the entire Phillies organization,” said Congressman Patrick Murphy.

Patrick Murphy represents Bucks County and parts of Montgomery County and Northeast Philadelphia. From 1988-1993, Murphy spent summers working for the Phillies at the old Veterans Stadium. He is the first Iraq war veteran to serve in Congress and currently lives in Bristol, PA with his wife Jenni and their daughter Maggie.
