Guest Speaker Biographies - Dora I. Brown
 

A vital professional in the field of finance, Dora I. Brown has vast experience in banking and has dedicated her services to IBC – McAllen since 1990. Various duties encompass her everyday undertaking as Senior Vice President of Marketing and International Banking. She is highly involved in advertising and public relations with the local media. Brown is also an essential participant in customer service by managing customer accounts, plans, and organizes all events at IBC – McAllen and even travels to Mexico to visit foreign customers. 

Brown’s career started at Merchants Marine Bank in Port Isabel Texas in 1970 where she was first hired as a receptionist. In the course of her work there, she was transferred to New Accounts Department and was also employed as Secretary to the President. As a result, she gained useful skills in various areas of the bank. She also worked at Valley Federal Savings for 10 years where she was the Supervisor in different areas of operations. 

Despite all the work Brown does, she still makes time to provide for the community. Her primary service involves educational activities, including various literacy programs. Due to her incessant service to the community, Brown has received many awards including: the 1998 McAllen Woman of the Year, the Pharr Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellow, in 2000 she received the Betty Scharff National Hosts Award, the Muscular Dystrophy Association Outstanding Woman Leadership Award, she received the 2008 Volunteer of the Year Award from the McAllen Chamber of Commerce and the Rio Grande Valley Easter Seals Society among others. She was the 2004-2005 McAllen Chamber of Commerce Board Chairman and currently serves on the McAllen Education Foundation Board, Texas Bankers Association Foundation Board, Museum of South Texas Board and, the Texas State University Latin America Advisory Board Council. Brown is an alumni of Leadership Texas Class of 2004, and Leadership America 2005. Dora has also served for 18 years as the chairman for the Candlelight McAllen Posada Parade. She attended Texas Southmost College in Brownsville, Texas, and Robert E. Lee College in Baytown, Texas. She has increased her knowledge through various banking and marketing schools and seminars. She resides in McAllen with her husband of 35 years Joe Brown and daughter Jamie-Lynne who is a graduate of Southwest Texas State University, San Marcos and is employed at UT Austin.
