What is RSS?

One of the emerging technologies being implemented on web sites is RSS feeds, Really Simple Syndication (RSS). RSS has been gaining much momentum among many web sites, including government web and on-line education web sites as a means of distributing content update notification to end users.

To utilize RSS Feeds as an organizational web content distribution tool, a user must have an RSS-aware program, called news aggregators or Feed Readers. A Feed Reader helps a user stay current with their favorite web sites by checking their RSS Feeds and displaying new items from each feed.

One of the features of this technology is once the end user subscribes to a feed they will be notified every time the feed is updated, eliminating the need to check various web sites for updates and also provides a method of grouping and filtering feeds.

NCUA has implemented several feeds. We have a comprehensive feed of all updates to the NCUA web site http://www.ncua.gov/RSS/NCUAChanges.xml. We also have a feeds targeted to news and announcements for each of the NCUA board members:

To copy NCUA's feed into your feed reader:

• Open your feed reader
• Select the option to create a new feed
• Enter the following URL when prompted: http://www.ncua.gov/RSS/NCUAChanges.xml
