DIETARY
GUIDELINES FOR AMERICANS 2005
On January 12, 2005, Tommy
G. Thompson, Secretary of the Department of
Health and Human Services, and Ann M. Veneman,
Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture
announced the release of the Dietary Guidelines
for Americans 2005. The new guidelines
consist of 41 key recommendations - 23 for
the general public and 18 for special populations.
They are grouped into these nine general topics:
- Adequate Nutrients
Within Calorie Needs
- Weight Management
- Physical Activity
- Food Groups to Encourage
- Fats
- Carbohydrates
- Sodium and Potassium
- Alcoholic Beverages
- Food Safety
