Decide to move; decide to JUST DO ANYTHING – consistently! At FitnessWork (FW), we believe, live and mentor this attitude. FW involves schools, seniors and worksites realizing synergies with City Parks & Rec, Occupational Safety & Health professionals, and State Governor’s Physical Fitness Councils. The Marathon KidZ Program has kids running a Marathon ‘One Recess at a time.’ At the Governor’s Occupational Safety & Health (GOSH) Conference “Workplace Wellness. It Works” Summit, FW will teach safety committees how to start a grass roots wellness initiative. FW writes a monthly “Well Word” Safety Newsletter article and will sponsor the HPR Kids Duathlon.
NikeGO is Nike's signature U.S. community affairs initiative and long-term commitment to getting kids more physically active. The program's mission is to increase physical activity in youths, offering them the support and motivation to become physically active, stay healthy and have fun. NikeGO components include:
NikeGO on Native Lands provides greater physical activity opportunities to youth ages 5-14 in Boys and Girls Clubs on Native American reservations throughout the U.S.
NikeGO Head Start improves the health and wellness of Head Start children by disseminating a physical education program designed especially for pre-school children in the Head Start Community.
NikeGO PE is Nike’s short term strategy to bring the “New P.E.” into the school day. NikeGO PE, looks to increase the quality and quantity of P.E. in schools where P.E. classes have been drastically reduced or eliminated. Programs run in elementary schools located in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Portland and Akron.
Shape Up Across Oregon was initiated by the Oregon Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports in 1998 and originally targeted the activity level of school children. Due to our sponsors support, we are able to offer this motivational fitness program to all elementary and middle-school students, public and private. Every student that completes the program receives a certificate from the Governor and becomes eligible for a prize drawing.
The hallmark youth program takes place during the month of April and encourages students to be physically active for at least 30 – 60 minutes each day. In 2006 over 60,000 students participated in this program from over 240 schools state-wide.
Shape Up is offered to community and senior centers and work place sites throughout Oregon with month long to multi-month options.
Among our 2006 sponsors we are proud to include the Oregon Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, the Oregon Department of Education, the Oregon Dairy Council, St. Charles Medical Center, Samaritan Health Services, Providence Health Plan, the Department of Human Services, and adidas International.
