Fun for kids at the Presidio Archaeology Lab!
The Garbology program invites students (grades three to six) to become archaeologists for a day. Kids enjoy fun hands-on activities like excavation and sorting in the Presidio Archaeology Lab. They then go to Crissy Field Center to study decomposition in miniature landfills, consider the impact of their own garbage on the environment, and discuss alternatives for reducing waste. The experience culminates when each student uses recycled materials to create a journal.
The Garbology program is popular with teachers and students, and was awarded the California Governor’s Award for Historic Preservation. Call (415) 561-5086 to arrange a school group visit.
Garbology is a joint program of the Presidio Trust, the National Park Service, and the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy.
