A photo of trees and picnic tables at Rob Hill Campground.A little-known Presidio treasure, Rob Hill Campground is the only overnight campsite within San Francisco. It is situated at the Presidio’s highest point in a stand of eucalyptus trees overlooking Baker Beach and the Pacific Ocean. Links to the Bay Area Ridge Trail and Baker Beach are nearby. Rob Hill Campground is typically open for group camping by permit from April through October.

Exciting Improvements Underway – Rob Hill Will Reopen for 2010 Season

A sketch of Rob Hill Campground after improvements are complete. Thanks to a generous gift from the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund, Rob Hill Campground is being revitalized and expanded to offer more children and families a camping experience in the heart of San Francisco. Plans call for doubling the number of campsites, creating new restrooms, and adding a large stone fire circle and gateway. With the planned renovations and expanded services, the campsite could eventually serve around 20,000 people each year.

In order to complete these exciting improvements, Rob Hill will be closed during the 2008 and 2009 seasons. The Presidio Trust will accept reservations for the 2010 season (which runs from April to October) beginning in the second week of January 2010. At that time, contact Presidio Trust Special Events at (415) 561-5444 to reserve a space. Please do not call prior to January 2010.

The Camping at the Presidio (CAP) program, which provides children and youth who traditionally have not visited national parks with overnight camping experiences, continues at an alternate Presidio location. For information about eligibility criteria, costs, and the camping package, please call (415) 561-7690.
