Rare and Endangered Plant

Glandularia tampensis
Glandularia tampensis Glandularia tampensis, also known as the Tampa Vervain, is endemic to coastal areas of southern Florida. Development has put tremendous pressure on the habitat of this endangered plant, and currently only twenty-four naturally-occurring populations remain intact. Currently, efforts are being made to protect habitat on public and private lands and to preserve germplasm from carefully-monitored remaining populations. In order to slow demand for wild-collected plants, some conservation-minded nurseries are growing and selling Glandularia tampensis, and it is becoming increasingly popular among native plant collectors and enthusiasts of butterfly-attracting gardens.
