Rare and Endangered Plant

Bonamia menziesii
Bonamia menziesii Bonamia menziesii, is an endangered twining lliana that is endemic to the Hawaiian Islands. In many areas, the dry forest habitat where this species grows has been destroyed or modified by agriculture, development, overgrazing by animals, fire, and encroachment by invasive species of plants. Currently, populations of Bonamia menziesii are comprised of only a few hundred plants. Conservationists are taking measures to protect remaining populations of this plant including weed control, fire suppression, fencing to exclude animals, conservation of plants and seeds in botanical gardens and seed banks, and preservation of remaining intact habitat.
