The Chamber of Flowood recognizes there is a clear connection between healthy leaders and a healthy business. Mississippi's high obesity ranking is one compelling reason we need to get a handle on a healthier lifestyle.
As a 50th Anniversary Partner, we will host a Wellness Luncheon for Mississippi business leaders. We are pleased to announce Dr. Tedd Mitchell, medical director of the Cooper Wellness Program as our keynote speaker.
On October 28, 2006, we will present the ‘Fit to Lead’ 5K Challenge. The 5K run, and one-mile fun run, will be the result of a partnership of local businesses, churches, and schools.
In an effort to promote a healthy lifestyle, the Mississippi Department of Health’s Office of Women’s Health is an active participant in Reconnect to Your Health. We’ve started a healthy lifestyle program to emphasize the importance of exercise and healthy eating. Our goal is to motivate and educate employees on how to lose weight, eat healthy and exercise more. It is a known fact that obesity and being overweight is associated with multiple diseases and other preventable causes of death. The competitive program will run from February 13 thru May 20, 2006. Teams from our central office, district offices and county health departments must choose a captain and co-captain, name their teams and log in their progress every two weeks. Various educational materials (Pearls of Wisdom) and website information supplying employees with tools needed for success will be provided throughout the event. The team that has lost the highest percentage of weight by May 20 will receive an award.
There are additional incentives for the winning team upon completion of the event. The winning team will be featured on local radio shows, in newsletters and newspapers to share their success and how they did it.
