The scouts will join the Presidential Active Lifestyle Awards Program to “get moving” this winter. Planned events during the year will include nature hikes and clean-ups in local parks; personal fitness, nutrition, and exercise safety talks; and completion of The BSA Physical Fitness Award.

UPDATE FROM MARY ROCKWOOD (04/30/06):

The Tussahaw Scouts are invited to a talk on "Fitness and Nutrition for Scouts" on May 23rd to promote the National Physical Fitness and Sports Month and to Get the Tussahaw Scouts Moving. The Scouts are being encouraged to use the Active Lifestyle Program to log their activities while working on their Physical Fitness Belt Loops, BSA Physical Fitness Award, or BSA Personal Fitness Merit Badge Programs this summer.

As a State Representative for House District-3 in Georgia, I would like to join the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports (PCPFS) in celebrating it’s 50th Anniversary during 2006.  Being in the Georgia General Assembly for the last six years, I have encouraged legislators to set the example (as elected leaders) for the importance of physical activity and fitness.  Georgia State University offers each legislator access to it’s Student Recreation Center during the sessions of the General Assembly.  In 2004 I won The Georgia Coalition for Physical Activity and Nutrition’s (GPAN’s) Legislative Fitness Challenge.

Sharing fitness is my passion! I've been "in the business" for twenty-plus years. I am about to branch away from the gym scene and launch a neighborhood training program. My vision is to pair neighbors up as buddies to keep each other accountable for their quest for a better lifestyle. I will act as their coach/mentor, encourage them, and keep track of their progress. I believe America can "Get Moving" one neighborhood at a time.
