Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC)

The FDIC is an independent agency created by Congress that contributes to stability and public confidence in the nation’s financial system by insuring deposits, examining and supervising financial institutions, and managing receiverships.  The FDIC responds rapidly, innovatively and effectively to risks of the financial system.  The FDIC  works effectively with other regulators to achieve consistency in policy and regulation of financial institutions. The FDIC’s long and continuing tradition of public services is supported and sustained by a highly skilled and diverse workforce that responds rapidly and successfully to changes in the financial environment.

Division of Information Technology Student Internship Program

The Division of Information Technology (DIT) is one of several operating divisions within the FDIC.  DIT provides information technology corporate-wide.  As the FDIC’s technology leader, DIT provides the Corporation with innovative and cost-cost effective IT solutions to support core business processes and to achieve mission-critical goals.

The DIT Student Internship Program was created to attract and recruit quality student interns to the FDIC’s Division of Information Technology (DIT) who would like to combine academic studies with paid on-the-job experience with the possibility of converting to a permanent position.

Student Educational Employment Program (SEEP)

The FDIC's Student Educational Employment Program (SEEP) is the authority under which student interns are recruited and hired at the FDIC.  The primary objectives of the SEEP is to attract and recruit quality students to meet short and long-range staffing needs, bring new educational methods and concepts into the workforce, strengthen relationships between educators and federal employers, assist students in applying classroom theory and practical work experience, assist interns in meeting financial obligations, and expanding teaching resources and faculty knowledge of workforce needs.

SEEP consists of the following two flexible components:

  • Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) provides students the opportunity to earn a salary and obtain work experience that is directly related to their education and career goals with the possibility of converting to a permanent position at the completion of the program.  SCEP provides for a partnership between the student, school, and DIT.  A minimum grade point average (GPA) as documented and agreed upon in a working agreement must be maintained.
  • Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) also enables students to earn a salary while continuing their education however, STEP participant’s work assignments do not need to be related to the student’s academic or career pursuits and there is no provision for competitive appointment.  Participants are required to maintain a grade point average (GPA) of a 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
