Dr. Marc S. Allen

Marc S. Allen is Assistant Associate Administrator for Strategy, Policy, and International within NASA’s Science Mission Directorate. In this capacity, major functions include oversight of the Directorate’s relationship with the National Research Council and planning and advising on collaboration with foreign space agencies. He coordinates Directorate plans and policies and represents them to key external groups, including the research community and foreign partners. He works closely with the Office of External Relations and interfaces with NASA’s Office of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs, Office of Strategic Communications, and Exploration Systems Mission Directorate.

Before coming to NASA in late 1997, he served for seven years as Director of the National Research Council’s Space Studies Board. Previously, he held management positions at CTA Incorporated and Computer Sciences Corporation, working at NASA’s Langley Research Center and Goddard Space Flight Center in the areas of space systems analysis and applications software development. Holding a Ph.D. in astronomy from the University of Michigan, his first career was research in solar physics and stellar spectroscopy.
