OVERVIEW

The Goddard Earth Science (GES) Data and Information Service Center (DISC) is making some of its data available on Google Earth to facilitate scientific research. Our NASA imagery includes two dimensional (2D) flat data and three dimensional (3D) vertical data. An innovative solution integrates the vertical data from A-Train constellation satellites CloudSat, CALIPSO (Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observation), and Aqua (mainly MODIS and AIRS products) and campaign missions into Google Earth to vividly expose cloud, aerosol, and H2O characteristics and atmospheric temperature profile in the form of curtain along the satellite orbit.

LATEST NEWS

04.01.2009 -KML files are available for AIRS level 3 version 5 monthly data (Jan. 2007 -- Dec. 2008)

Only is a very small root KML file required to be downloaded and opened in Google Earth. This root KML file is the top of a pyrimad. 15 kinds of phyiscal parameters for each month are visualized and available. Related data and their metadata are also available for downloading and browsing. The root KML file is here.

02.01.2009 -CFP for a special issue on "Virtual Globes in Science" in Computers & Geosciences

NASA GES DISC, George Mason University and University of Alaska Fairbanks are cooperating to organize a special issue on Virtual Globes in Science in Computers & Geoscience. Call for papers is here (pdf version).

12.15.2008 -GES DISC participated in 2008 AGU Fall meeting at San Francisco, CA.

A poster named "NASA Airborne-acquired Vertical Data in Google Earth" and some live demos for horizontal map and vertical data were given at the special session "Virtual Globes at AGU". Poster is available here. Demos summary is available here.
