What's New

More than 5,000 persons with HIV/AIDS and their families will receive housing through $19 million in grants announced by Secretary Martinez on December 4, 2002. Thousands of other individuals also will receive better access to the services they need as a result of these new grants.

As part of HUD's World AIDS Day Commemoration, HUD will broadcast a video on the HOPWA (Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS) program tomorrow, Thursday, December 5, 2002, at 1 pm Eastern, 10 am Pacific. The video features commentary from HUD clients and from leaders in nonprofit organizations and public agencies who work in partnership with HUD to make HOPWA and related programs successful in their communities.

2002 World AIDS Day Logo

The theme for this year's World AIDS Campaign is "Live and Let Live" as coordinated by the United Nations joint Programme on HIV/AIDS.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development has been a leader in helping people to cope with and the problems associated with the disease. Through the Housing Opportunities for People With AIDS (HOPWA) program HUD grants money to state and local governments and public service grantees to meet a variety of needs of people and families living with HIV/AIDS.
