Archeological Information Management (AIM)
The AIM Team, led by Archeologist Anne
Vawser, is involved chiefly with compiling and managing
archeological site data. Staff from the team may also assist
field project personnel with collection of site location data
using global positioning system (GPS) devices. They are primarily
involved with conversion of existing archeological site file
and map information from paper records to electronic format
through data entry and map digitizing.
Data entry into the Archeological
Sites Management Information System (ASMIS), compilation
of the Cultural Sites Inventory (CSI) documentation notebooks,
and digitizing of maps into a GIS are the core of the team's
workload. The team is also responsible for organization and
management of the Center's Resource
Center, which currently holds well over 28,000 books,
periodicals, manuscripts, and government documents. They also
provide GIS
assistance to other Federal Agencies and GIS project planning
and development for Center staff.
