De Soto National Memorial

 Participates in 15th Annual

National Public Lands Day

De Soto National Memorial Superintendent, Scott Pardue, invites you to join other area residents in the largest hands-on effort to improve and enhance the public lands American’s enjoy.  This annual coast-to-coast, single-day volunteer restoration effort for America’s public lands will be supported by local volunteers from Adopt-A-Shore Volunteers, the Fourth Avenue Northeast Neighbors. They will pick-up debris and litter from the trails and shoreline areas at De Soto National Memorial.

This year’s emphasis for National Public Lands Day will be to commemorate the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), the “tree army” that exemplified land stewardship from 1933-1942, to preserve and protect America’s natural heritage.  3.1 million enrollees worked at CCC camps during this time.  They created the infrastructure of our nation’s modern outdoor recreational system and the tenets of the modern conservation movement still in use today.  Join us in this commemoration of the 75th. Anniversary of the CCC.  Together we can honor the legacy of these environmental heroes by continuing to improve, protect, and maintain our nation’s public lands.

Anyone interested in joining Fourth Avenue Northeast Neighbors may meet at the park VisitorCenter at 9:00 a.m. or may contact Pat Augustitus, Coordinator of the group at 941-750-0939.
