Issues: Little is known about KPA of pharmacists to microbicides as substances that help to inhibit or prevent transmission of HIV and other STI's depending on the type used. Although spermicides are availablein pharmacies in Nigeria and not widely used microbicides are not yet introduced n Nigeria. The study was aimed at KPA of Pharmacists as a means to help to educate those individuals that are at high risk of developing HIV/AIDS and other STI's on the importance of these microbicides. Description: Questionnaires on KPA of Pharmacists on microbicides in Lagos, were distributed randomly to pharmacists working as Private Practice, hospitals and industries. Two hundred Pharmacists were enrolled in this study. Lessons learnt: The respondents (83.2%) were mainly in the age group 20 - 39 years and were mainly (63.1%) those working in the hospital environment. Seventy-percent of the pharmacists had not heard about microbicides. The few who had heard about microbicides, heard from colleagues. Majority (85.7%) believed that it would not help in giving protection against HIV/AIDS and other STI's. The few who believed preferred to administer them as gels (44.4%). Majority (81.3%) preferred to buy the microbicides from pharmacies. The higher degree in pharmacy (M. Sc Pharm) did not improve their knowledge of microbicides. Recommendations: This KPA study highlights the need to educate pharmacists about microbicides so they in turn can be knowledgeable about the microbicides and educate those individuals that are at high risk of HIV/AIDS and other STI's. Enlghtenment seminars is this area should be done to enable these group of health professionalsand others gain knowledge on the usefulness of microbicides to prevent transmission of HIV/AIDS and other STI's.
