The study objective was to study the knowledge, attitude and practices of AIDS and HIV among high risk group in Alexandria, Egypt, understanding how knowledge oh HIV relates to personal risk perception. A cross sectionalstudy was performed in the city of Alexandria amnog different groups of high risk persons of getting HIV e.g. prisoners, STDs patients, blood doners, drug addicts. A predesigned questionnaire was prepared and distributed for all these groups, inquiring about their knowledge, attitudes and practices toward HIV/AIDS. Logistic regression analysis was used to determine the most important predictors of perception and knowledge. Of 1400 persons who completed the questionnaire, their knowledge and attitudes towards HIV/ AIDS was poor, as they denied many important modes of transmission and admitted that sharing toilets and insect bite nay be a cause of transmission. Perception of risk was significantly associated with sex, degree of knowledge.
