Dept. of Mycology and Bacteriology, Natl. Inst. Dermato-Venereology, Budapest, Hungary.

520 of 5594 STD-patients /439 female, 81 male/ were infected by yeasts according to the data of our outpatient's clinic in 1992. 779 positive cultures were obtained from these patients with standard methods. The cultures gave 695 different yeast strains /in 84 cases the samples were taken from different parts of genital region and/or from urine/. Besides the 471 yeast infections 222 double or multiple /bacterial and/or protozoal/ infections were diagnosed. The ratio of recidives was 1:3 at women and less than 1:10 at men. In 29 patients the mycosis manifested after antibiotic therapy of other infections. 80% of the identified yeast strains was Candida albicans.
