Issues: Many HIV/AIDS studies associated with attitudes and Knowledge among young people in Zambia will likely show that while knowledge and awareness is high it is not the same with behavior. CARE through promoting a proper understanding about transmission and prevention of HIV/AIDS through education and public awareness of the young people both in and out of school is responding to this. Participatory Learning Activities (PLA) data has shown us that awareness on HIV/AIDS is high. Description: CARE Zambia, Makeni Ecumenical Center and Planned parenthood Association of Zambia conducted a participatory assessment with close to 4,000 peri-urban young people in four compounds around Lusaka. Participatory methodologies were used and we asked the young people to discuss and analyse their behaviors. Conclusion: The Young people mentioned the following as prevention measures against contracting AIDS: Avoiding "skin to skin" sex, stick to one partner, faithfulness to your partner, abstaining from sex, avoiding sharing sharp instruments like needles, razor blades, injection and tooth brush, having sex with a virgin or a girl you trust, and by using a condom. "Ice block plastic" was mentioned to have been used for protection by wrapping the small plastic around the penis. Most adolescents mentioned condoms as a protection against AIDS but few are using them (Less than 40%).
