Int Conf AIDS. 2000 Jul 9-14; 13: abstract no. MoPeD2748.

Issues: In this last years there have been a turn for the worse in the crisis of HIV/AIDS, the non planned pregnancies between single adolescents and the grow of STD cases. Human sexuality continues generating biases, anxiety and fear in the younger ones, with inmediate consequences to their life projects and families. Description: Our project focuses young persons living in impoverished conditions where great levels of violence are observed. Their low education, crammed spaces and carelessness where more than enough justification to convey the benefits of urgent intervention. As pleasure is linked to sexuality, this project also realized that the way to enter the young urban nuclei was through the music. Youngsters who enjoy "colombiana" music gather weekly at dance halls. The project goes there to deliver information and condoms. Conclusions: Through radio programs, workshops, information modules and a team of promoters the project has learned how to approach and work with a social group far detached from the scope of official campaigns in Mexico.
