Youth for youth--"unlegal" AIDS-prevention in Poland.

Malewska J; International Conference on AIDS.

Int Conf AIDS. 1992 Jul 19-24; 8: Tu42 (abstract no. TuD 0577).

PROBLEM: AIDS prevention, mostly condom promotion among special kind of young people who are on the edge of the risk. They often don't go to schools, don't watch TV or listen to the radio. METHODS: Youth Section cooperates with many rock and punk music groups with nightclubs and discos. We talk about AIDS with youth and we also give them condoms and our special leaflets. That people often have no authority so it's difficult to convince them of using condoms. But when condoms are given them by other young people they start to think about it and start to make safer sex. RESULTS: That young people ask us for more information about AIDS, they talk about it with parents and they often cooperate with us in propagating safer sex. LESSONS LEARNED: Participants will learn about successful strategy used to introduce condoms into the closed groups of young punx, rasta, etc. They will also learn how to propagate safer sex in country with strong Church and prudish society.
