LICENSE REQUIREMENT
Applicants must be licensed to practice embalming and funeral directing by a State,
territory, or the District of Columbia.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
All positions in this series require a minimum of 1 year of specialized experience
equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.
Experience must have been as an embalmer, funeral director, or mortuary officer that included
restorative art and cosmetology. It must have required knowledge of the laws governing
mortuary activities, including transportation of remains. The experience must also have
demonstrated the ability to establish effective working relationships with individuals,
groups, and the public.
Applicants for mortuary officer positions must have a thorough knowledge of all phases of
a large mortuary program.
