500.10 - USGS Reporting Policy

1. Policy. Reporting requirements within the USGS shall be kept to the minimum needed for the effective conduct of USGS business. Bureauwide administrative reports not required by higher authority shall be eliminated unless the bureau determines that the report is necessary in order to serve a management, organizational, or programmatic need. Similarly, reports established at the division level or below should be kept only if they meet the test of serving a valid management, organizational, or programmatic need.

2. Responsibilities. Bureau reporting requirements are documented in the functional areas of the USGS directives system.
