Excellence in Water Treatment Award
The ultimate recognition offered by the Partnership for Safe Water was awarded to the
Champlain Water District, South Burlington, VT, at the New England Water Works
Association 118th Annual Conference. Jim Westrick, representing EPA, stated
that the Phase IV award is made only to the top-performing surface water
treatment plants in the country. These are plants which operate at optimum
levels of performance and have the demonstrated capability to do so in the face
of any challenge. The Peter L. Jacob Water Treatment Facility of the Champlain
Water District is the first to receive this award.
The
Champlain Water District was also recognized nationally at the Opening Session
of the AWWA Water Quality Technology Conference in Tampa, FL on November 1,
1999. Steve Hubbs of the Louisville Water Company, Chair of the Partnership
for Safe Water Steering Committee, presented an impressive framed plaque to Jim
Fay, General Manager of CWD and read a letter from Carol Browner,
Administrator, EPA, congratulating CWD on receiving the first Excellence in
Water Treatment Award.
