A Message from the Superintendent

Welcome to Cabrillo National Monument’s education website.  We’re glad that your class will soon experience one of our educational programs.

Cabrillo National Monument contains a wide variety of natural and cultural resources, from the intertidal habitat to coastal chaparral, and from the statue of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo and the Old Point Loma Lighthouse to the Coastal Defense exhibit.  It is our mission to preserve these resources for the use and enjoyment of future generations.  There is no better way to do this than to instill in the minds of children the value and importance of special places like our park.

We continue to look to teaching professionals to suggest ways to make our program better.  Your comments and ideas are always appreciated as we strive to improve our educational program.

Click here to begin planning your educational visit.  I hope that you and your students will have an enjoyable visit to one of America’s special places:  Cabrillo National Monument.

Tom Workman, Superintendent

Lighthouse

Did You Know?
Did you know that assistant lighthouse keeper Maria Israel of the Old Point Loma Lighthouse made and sold shell picture frames? Today, you can see one of the frames made by Maria still hanging in the lighthouse at Cabrillo National Monument.
