Thick streams of tan dust blow northward off the shores of Morocco into the Atlantic Ocean. West of the dust storm are the Canary Islands. The dust appears to have originated in the Western Sahara, left of the dark brown wrinkle the Atlas Mountains form in the otherwise tan landscape. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument on the Terra satellite captured this true-color image on November 4, 2003.
