James M. Strock

Biography

The U.S. Senate has confirmed James M. Strock as the Assistant Administrator for Enforcement and Compliance Monitoring of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Strock served at EPA as a Special Assistant to the Administrator between 1983 and 1985.

"President Bush and I have made enforcement one of our top environmental priorities," EPA Administrator William K. Reilly said. "Jim Strock brings the determination and the background to help EPA carry out this commitment."

Between May and June 1989, Strock was Acting Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. He had been General Counsel there since 1988.

He was a Senior Associate of the Denver law firm of Davis, Graham and Stubbs from November 1986 to January 1988, where he counseled on environmental law, litigation and administrative and legislative representation.

Strock joined the staff of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works in 1985 as Special Counsel. He left the committee in November 1986, after having worked on enactment or reauthorization of six environmental laws.

He is the author or co-author of numerous environmental-issues articles published in numerous publications and received the Ross Essay Award of the American Bar Association in 1985. He is a member of the Board of Advisors of "Toxics Law Reporter" and an adjunct fellow of the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

He received his bachelor's degree and law degree from Harvard University and did post-graduate work at Oxford University on a Rotary Scholarship.

Strock is a native of Texas and now lives in Arlington, Va. He has been active in the Big Brothers of America and is a member of the Board of Youth Service America. He is a commissioned officer in the Army Reserve.
