The Scholarship Program provides information and resources on financial assistance  to members of Team Coast Guard.

Discussions of the Scholarship Program with Work-Life personnel are confidential.

Requesting Services or Resources
Scholarship information can be obtained by contacting the Family Resource Specialist at your Regional Work-Life Staff. Work-Life Staffs are located at Integrated Support Commands CG-wide and at the Headquarters Support Command.

Coast Guard Foundation Scholarships (Applications accepted 4 January 2010)

Coast Guard Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund - This fund honors Coast Guard members who have lost their life by providing educational scholarships to their children. This scholarship supports enlisted and officer dependents. Contact the Coast Guard Scholarship Program Manager at Yvette.D.Wright@uscg.mil or 202-475-5159 for additional information.

Arnold Sobel Endowment Fund Scholarship
- This fund offers four or more Sobel grants of up to $5,000.00 per year. Dependent sons and daughters of enlisted men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard or U.S. Coast Guard Reserve on extended active duty are eligible to apply.

Coast Guard Foundation Scholarships – This fund offers four or more Coast Guard Foundation grants ranging from $2,500.00 to $5,000.00. Dependent sons and daughters of enlisted men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard or U.S. Coast Guard Reserve on extended active duty are eligible to apply.

The Captain Ernest W. Fox Perpetual Scholarship Program (FOX) - The program established a perpetual scholarship at the Coast Guard Aircraft Repair and Supply Center (ARSC), Elizabeth City, North Carolina to assist the education/ training endeavors of ARSC personnel. This fund offers one $1,000.00 grant for each school year. Employees of the ARSC (enlisted and officer active duty military, federal civil service) and their dependents (including spouses) are eligible to apply. Members of the ARSC can contact the ARSC Career Development Advisor at 252-335-6214 for additional information.

CAPT Caliendo College Assistance Fund (CCCAF) - The CCCAF scholarship provides assistance to dependent children of Chief Petty Officers Association and Coast Guard enlisted association members to defray expenses incurred at a university, college or vocational school.

Coast Guard Institute - Information on scholarships, grants and loans for Coast Guard families.

Coast Guard Mutual Assistance (CGMA)

CGMA Stafford/Plus Loan Origination Fee Refund - Offers help to Coast Guard members and their families who finance post-secondary education through the Federal Stafford Loan or Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS), by refunding the mandatory 3% loan origination fee that is charged to each borrower.

CGMA Supplemental Education Grant (SEG) Program - Offers financial assistance by reimbursing certain costs associated with seeking a first undergraduate (associate and/or bachelor) degree, or a Vocational and Technical Training (VoTech) certificate, or a General Equivalency Diploma (GED), not otherwise covered by Coast Guard Tuition Assistance or similar programs. 

CGMA Supplemental Student Loan Program - Will loan eligible members up to $700 if a demonstrated financial need remains after they receive the maximum assistance authorized under the Coast Guard Tuition Assistance (CGTA) Program.

CGMA Vocational and Technical Training (VoTech) Student Loan Program - Will loan up to $1,500 to eligible individuals who are pursuing a Department of Veterans Affairs or Department of Education approved vocational technical training certificate program and who have a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

Fallen Members Scholarship Support

American Patriot Scholarship Program - This program, established by the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, supports sons and daughters of Uniformed Services personnel who lost their life in active duty service. Deadline: 12 noon, 1 March 2009

Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund
- Honors the bravery and dedication exhibited by Americans in our armed forces who have sacrificed life and limb. This Fund provides educational scholarships to their children.

Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund - Provides support to the families of military personnel who gave their lives in the current operations in Iraq and Afghanistan prior to May 12, 2005. New legislation enacted in May 2005 has significantly increased the death gratuity and the Service Members Group Life Insurance support to these families. At that time, the Fund redirected its efforts to support catastrophically disabled military personnel and their families. Scholarships for Military Children

Armed Forces YMCA Art Contest – Contest for elementary school children of military families with the opportunity to submit a piece of artwork that best illustrates his or her military family. Children from all branches of the military, (Coast Guard, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Reserve/National Guard, and Department of Defense), are invited to submit a drawing. Students have the opportunity to compete for US saving bonds ranging from $100 to $500.

Armed Forces YMCA Essay Contest – Contest for elementary and high school children of active-duty or retired military personnel in the Coast Guard, Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and National Guard to submit an essay about why they are proud of their military family. Students have the opportunity to compete for US saving bonds ranging from $100 to $1000.

Base/Post Scholarship - Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) provides financial assistance to dependent sons and daughters of ACTIVE DUTY officers and enlisted military personnel. This includes members of the drilling reserve and National Guard. A one-time $1,000 scholarship grant; membership in MOAA is not required.

Bernard Curtis Brown II Space Camp Scholarship - Funded by the Military Child Education  Coalition, the scholarship covers: Meals, lodging, program materials, and transportation from student’s home base to nearest Space Camp.

Commander William S. Stuhr Scholarship for Military Sons and Daughters
- Information on financial assistance to the children of active-duty or retired military personnel who served for a minimum of 20 years. The award is $1,125 per year provided the student is a member of the Dean’s list at least once during his or her first two years. Fleet Reserve Association (FRA) – a non-profit organization consisting of Coast Guard, Navy, and Marine Corps families awards more than $25,000 in scholarships annually to FRA family members. Visit the web site to find membership information and scholarship applications.

Navy League - The League supports several scholarships for dependants or direct descendants of an active, reserve, retired or honorably discharged member of the Coast Guard, Navy, Flag Merchant Marine, Marine Corps and Naval Sea Cadet Corps. This scholarship supports enlisted and officer dependants.

Operation Purple Camp – Funded by Sears, this scholarship covers: meals, lodging, program materials and transportation, from student’s home base to campsites available around the world.

Our Military Kids, Inc. - The mission of Our Military Kids, Inc. is to ensure that the children (K thru 12) of deployed and severely injured Reserve and National Guard personnel can afford to participate in activities such as youth sports, fine arts and tutoring programs that are so important in their young lives during this stressful time. Maximum grant amount is $500.00.

Ron Brown Scholar Program - Scholarships for exceptional young people who will inspire others in the 21st century.

Scholarships for Military Children Program - Funded through the generosity of manufacturers and suppliers whose products are sold at military commissaries, worldwide. This fund offers a $1,500.00 grant.

Home School Foundation

Patrick Henry College Scholarship Fund – Funded by the Home School Foundation, this scholarship offers scholarships for students who are interested in attending Patrick Henry College located in Purcellville, VA.

Coast Guard College Student Pre-Commissioning Initiative (CSPI) - A scholarship program for students entering their junior year of college, this program provides students with leadership, management, law enforcement, navigation, and marine science skills and training. To apply to the CSPI program, contact a Coast Guard recruiter at 1-877-NOW-USCG ext. 205, or visit www.gocoastguard.com for more information.

Military Health Professions

Air Force Healthcare Education - Air Force offers scholarships for Healthcare professionals in three- or four-year periods. This scholarship covers all tuition and required fees.

Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program - Navy offers scholarships for Healthcare professionals in three- or four-year periods. This scholarship covers all tuition and required fees.

Army Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) - Find information on becoming a Physician, Dentist, Veterinarian, Optometrist, Clinical Psychologist, or Nurse Anesthetist. If you qualify, you could earn a full-tuition scholarship, plus a monthly allowance through the Army’s HPSP.

- Public health service commissioned corps offers the commissioned corps officer student training with two excellent programs providing the opportunity to serve your country while completing your education.

Military Spouse Scholarships

Military Spouse Educational Assistance List - The Military Spouses Career Network (MSCN) provides an alphabetical listing of resources regarding educational financial assistance for service members and their families.

National Military Family Association (NMFA) Joanne Holbrook Patton Military Spouse Scholarship Program – These scholarships are awarded to spouses of Uniformed Services members (which includes active duty, National Guard, Reserve, and retirees) to obtain professional certification or to attend post secondary or graduate school for an academic year.

Talbots Women’s Scholarship Fund - Funded by Talbots Charitable Foundation, this fund will award $100,000 in scholarships to women determined to get that college degree.

Federal Civilian Employees

Federal Employees Education and Assistance Fund – Provides current civilian federal employees and their dependent family members (spouse/child) with educational assistance. Adult or child and other relatives are eligible if claimed on the sponsoring employee’s tax return. Active duty military members and their dependents are eligible only through a sponsoring civilian employee spouse. Military retirees and dependents are eligible if the retiree (or retiree’s spouse) is a current civilian federal employee. Deadline: 30 March 2009.

Veteran Resources

American Legion’s Scholarship Programs - A variety of scholarships to encourage children to make use of their education opportunities. To apply send applications to your American Legion Department (State) Headquarters. Do not send applications directly to the national headquarters.

Need a Lift? - American Legion’s Education Assistance Program provides a scholarship and financial aid guide. This 152-page booklet, updated annually, is a complete financial aid reference guide for veterans, veterans’ dependents and members of The American Legion family. Cost is $4.95. AMVETS - Award annual scholarships to the sons, daughters or grandchildren of AMVETS members or of a deceased veteran who would have been eligible for AMVETS membership. Additionally, a veteran who is eligible for membership may qualify his/her children or grandchildren by joining AMVETS and enclosing his/her membership application along with the student’s scholarship application.

Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA) - Awards scholarships and interest-free loans annually to members of AAAA and their spouses, unmarried siblings, unmarried children, and unmarried grandchildren of current and deceased members. Some scholarships are specifically for enlisted, warrant officer, company grade, and Department of the Army Civilian members.

GI Bill – Information on Veteran Administration educational benefits.

National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs (NASDVA) – State VA locator for information on possible state VA benefits.

Online Degrees and Training - Associates, bachelors, masters, doctoral degrees, and certification programs are available in more than 100 fields of study.

Virtual Business Owners Online Training Program (VBO) - This initiative recognizes self-employment as a professional career option for military spouses and is designed to educate participants on how to become self-employed Virtual Business Owners. This site is operated under contract for the Department of Defense.

FinAid - Provides a collection of information about student financial aid on the web.

ScholarShop – Information for students in grades 4-12 about careers, colleges and other post secondary schools.
