Saharan Dust over the Mediterranean

Much of the eastern Mediterranean Sea was covered by Saharan dust, as shown in this SeaWiFS image acquired on April 18, 2001. The colored speckles in the northeastern corner and near the bottom center are noise introduced to the data during reception of transmission from the Orbview-2 satellite.
