Commission on Hispanic Affairs
Office workers
The Commission on Hispanic Affairs was created by the 1983 Legislative Assembly to work for the implementation of economic, social, legal, and political equality for Hispanics in Oregon. The Commission monitors existing programs and legislation to ensure that the needs of Hispanics in Oregon are met. The Commission researches problems and issues and recommends appropriate action, maintains a liaison between the Hispanic community and government entities, and encourages Hispanic representation on state boards and commissions.
Welcome Note
Welcome to the official website of the Oregon Commission on Hispanic Affairs. Over the past year we have undergone some major changes, from leadership, Jose Ibarra was elected chair and David Molina was elected vice chair, to new and reappointed members of the Commission, to a change in our schedule, a new web presence and a different approach. The Commission has formed three committees and several work groups under each of them to more effectively carry out our statutory duties. Please visit our "about the Commissioners" section to read more about the members and their committee assignments.

The Commission has served Oregon Latinos since 1983 working towards economic, social, political and legal equality. This generation of Latinos faces some challenging times and issues that make the Commissions work important to the community and to the State of Oregon. Your participation is equally important. While much remains to be done, the Commission is steadfast in its commitment to its mission. We honor the good work of earlier Commissioners, building on their record as those who follow will add to this Commissions work.

Our calendar includes regular quarterly public meetings in Salem and will later provide for visits around the State of Oregon to ensure that we capture the questions, concerns and comments of Oregon Latinos so we can more effectively advocate on their behalf to the Governor, legislators and state agencies. We launched a bold initiative--Representa Oregon--that identifies and supports increased Latino presence on state boards and commissions.

Join our efforts. We are looking for qualified Latinos to serve on state boards and commissions. Send us your resume and your areas of interest. We can help you search for board or commission vacancies. We want to know of issues and problems in the Latino community. Send us your concerns and let us know about important issues in your community. If you have any questions about state government, we can try to point you in the right direction.

This is your site, your Commission. We look forward to serve you, to hear from you and work with you.
