OAR 335-095-0050 Temporary Rule Effective 8/13/2008
legislation
A new temporary rule creates a process for educational facilities to apply for a special exception to the usual proportion of Direct Supervision and Indirect Supervision required, and allows each Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to supervise four SLPAs instead of two. This special exception may only be granted for one year at a time, and only for up to two years in any five year period. It is intended to help educational facilities continue to serve their student populations despite severe staffing shortages or other extenuating circumstances.

This temporary rule went into effect on August 13, 2008, and expires on February 8, 2009. School districts or educational service districts wishing to apply for this exception should do so immediately, using the form on the Board's website. Any exceptions granted by the Board under this temporary rule will remain in effect until July 31, 2009. Over the next few months, the Board will discuss whether permanent adoption of this amendment is advisable.
