Shlynn McKinney became the seventh (7th) student that the Las Vegas Office staff has mentored. The Las Vegas Field Office Director, Kenneth J. LoBene, states, "It's so great again for HUD to launch our seventh year in opening its doors to our partners who provide the opportunity to attract young adults into the public sector and for the youth to understand the importance of giving back to their neighborhoods and communities."

Ms. McKinney is assigned to the office of Field Policy Management (FPM). She directly works for the Director. He has stated that her performance is always outstanding. With very little training or supervision, she is able to complete all tasks assigned to her.

The Summer Business Institute is sponsored by a partnership of Clark County Government and over 70 Southern Nevada businesses. They promote summer employment for inner city junior and senior high school students. The Clark County Summer Business Development Division pays Shlynn.

The Las Vegas HUD office is so proud to have received such an outstanding candidate. Shlynn will begin her senior year at Rancho High School in Las Vegas. She is a participant in the Medical Academy. Also she is a member of the National Honor Society, AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) club. In the Black Student Union, she held the office of treasurer. She also is a Varsity Cheerleader and a member of the Track and Field team.

Shlynn lives with her grandparents and loves spending her time with family. Noteworthy, she is very active and proud to be a member of her church. She is the Youth Usher's President, Youth Praise Dancer's Vice President and member of the Christian Women World Changers.

She volunteers every fourth Saturday of the month by helping to feed the homeless. Shlynn helps others by tutoring in math on Saturday afternoons.

She has maintained greater than a 3.5 GPA during her entire high school career and is working towards graduating with High Honors. She intends to work towards receiving a Master's degree in International Business. Ms. McKinney hopes someday to run her own business.

The HUD Las Vegas Field Office personnel have contributed to Shlynn McKinney's development. They are convinced that she will definitely excel to the top of her chosen career. Bernard C. Yergeau, Operations Analyst in FPM, was the primary mentor for her training.
