Question: How can I get on a contractor
list for construction of new HUD housing or making repairs on HUD
properties?
Answer:
General
You can view
and/or download any HUD solicitation for which you
are interested in competing. Each solicitation contains a detailed
description of the contract work requirements as well as instructions
on how, when and where to submit your bid/proposal. From that
page, you can also subscribe to a free email notification service
for HUD contracting opportunities. You might also want to check
out our "Quick Guide
to HUD Contracting." HUD does not typically contract
directly for the services you describe, but you there are other
possibilities.
Single Family Properties
Most of the HUD-owned properties are sold "as-is". HUD
has direct contracts with Management and Marketing (M&M) companies
who are responsible for these services. Your best bet would be
to contact the M&M
contractor in your area to market your services and ask to
be placed on their bidders lists for possible future subcontracting
opportunities.
Multifamily Properties
The same holds true for multifamily properties. View a list of
HUD’s prime multifamily
contractors.
New Contruction
HUD does not contract for these services. Typically, HUD provides
grant funding to
local City and State governments for their various economic
development programs. Some of the work these entities do might
entail new construction. So for this type work, your best bet
would be to contact your local City or State purchasing offices
to market your services and ask to be placed on their bidders
lists for possible future contracting opportunities.
Public housing
Another possibility would be for you to contract with local Public
Housing Agencies (PHA) as they do a lot of contracting also.
Question: How can I get a grant or loan to start my
own business?
Answer: HUD does not offer any direct funding opportunities,
grants, or specific assistance for starting a new business. You
might want to check with your local U.S. Small Business Administration
(SBA) office. The SBA has many programs available to assist you.
One good place to start is to visit the SBA's "Starting
Your Own Business" internet site.
Question:
Are Third Party Tracers Legal?
Answer: It is true that there are some businesses
that "trace" individuals due an FHA refund, then charge
the recipient a fee for recovering the refunds. While this is a
legal endeavor, it is not a HUD sponsored or endorsed program. HUD
does not contract for these services. Anyone can see if they are
due an FHA refund
and claim it for free.
Question: How do I become a UPCS inspector?

under the Department's Uniform Physical Condition Standards (UPCS)
regulations must be inspected by individuals certified in the use
of the Department's UPCS inspection protocol and procedures. more...
