GENERAL MANAGEMENT PLAN

Pinnacles National Monument is working on a new general management plan (GMP). The last plan was completed in 1976. The general management plan will help us make decisions on directions for resource management, visitor use and interpretation, and facilities management. It will help us to decide how best to use the new Pinnacles Ranchlands we acquired in 2006. It gives you the opportunity to express your thoughts, ideas, and vision so that together we can keep Pinnacles a wonderful resource for the future.

For more information about the GMP process, please view or print the Pinnacles GMP NewsletterYou may also visit a web site called the National Park Service Planning, Environment and Public Comment website (or PEPC). It provides information about current plans and related documents. This web site will be updated whenever we have new information to share with you.

Just Added: Newsletter #3: Preliminary Alternatives and Online Comment Form. This newsletter presents preliminary alternatives for managing Pinnacles in the future. The preliminary alternatives include different approaches to access, visitor services, trails and recreation activities, education, research, natural and cultural resource protection, infrastructure, park administrative functions, partnerships, and other topics.

We’d like to hear from you! There are several ways for you to provide comments on the preliminary alternatives. You can fill out a comment form included in the newsletter, fill out an online comment form (see link above), or email your comments. Pinnacles is also hosting open house meetings in late August. At these workshops, you will be able to talk with the planning team about your ideas, comments, and questions. The comment period extends through October 31, 2008. Yellow Starthistle

Did You Know?
The yellow star thistle is one of many invasive (non-native) plants threatening the ecosystems of Pinnacles. Many seeds are accidentally transported into the park on shoes and gear; you can do your part to prevent the spread of these pests by cleaning shoes, socks, and gear before visiting the park.
