Abstract Franklin Memorial Hospital is a small community hospital in rural Maine established in 1929. It is now the center of Franklin Community Health Network (FCHN), which includes, along with the hospital, several practices, a mental health service, and the Healthy Community Coalition. The FCHN Archive is both a depository of institutional records and a collection of historical material, primarily related to the history of health care, but also to local history topics. Items in the collection may be examined in the Ben Franklin Center Library. Arrangements should be made in advance with the Librarian. Photocopies of printed items may be made in the library unless harmful to the orginals.

Holdings

The institutional archive consists of printed reports, newspaper articles, photographs, memorabilia, and medical equipment formerly used in the Hospital. The historical collection contains old medical books, sound recording of oral history, photographs, and medical equipment. Examples of medical equipment in the collection are a Campbell X-Ray and High Frequency Apparatus, a patient chair, Tanier axis traction forcepts, a nurse's cape, and a Will Corporation laboratory scale with weights. Most of the local history items are related to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Maine poet Elizabeth Akers Allen, Forster Manufacturing Company, and Cornelia "Fly Rod" Crosby.
