Abstract

The Mamiya Medical Heritage Center at Hawaii Medical Library consists of four collections: the Rare Book Collection, Special Collections (i.e., History of Medicine Collection), the Hawaii Collection, and the Archives. The Rare Book and Special Collections are selective collections of retrospective and current monographs pertaining to the history of medicine. These collections also include texts significant to the development of medical practice. The Hawaii Collection contains texts describing the history and culture of the Hawaiian Islands. The Archives is a collection of primary source (i.e., unpublished) materials documenting the history of medicine in Hawaii and in the Pacific. The Archives holdings include collections of manuscripts and records, medical instruments, photographs, and oral histories. SERVICES: Hawaii Medical Library welcomes reference questions by phone, letter, or e-mail. If research requires use of the Library's materials, please make an appointment in advance with the Special Collections Librarian. Hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Reference service is provided without charge. The Library will charge for inquiries requiring computer searches or extensive research and for any slides, prints, photographs or photocopies that are made as a result of an inquiry.
