On July 30, 2008, President Bush signed the Housing Economic Recovery Act of 2008, which created the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA). FHFA was created to combine FHFB, OFHEO and the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD’s) mission group as a single regulator for Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, the 12 Federal Home Loan Banks (FHLBanks) and the Office of Finance (OF).
