Washington, D.C. -- During Public Service Recognition Week, Vice President Al Gore will recognize 287 members of the federal governments Senior Executive Service (SES) who will receive the prestigious 1997 Presidential Rank Awards on Tuesday, May 5.
Also sharing the spotlight with the SES honorees will be representatives of the seven winners of the 1998 Public Service Excellence Awards.
The Distinguished and Meritorious Executive awards are presented annually to top federal executives for sustained exceptional performance resulting in less expensive and better service to the public. This years ceremony will be held:
In recognizing award recipients, Vice President Gore said, Each day, the lives of millions of Americans are improved because you work tirelessly for them. You epitomize the very best of public service. On behalf of the President and our citizens, I thank you.
U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director Janice R. Lachance, who will MC the Tuesday event, also praised top federal career executives.
I am grateful for the work you perform every day for the people of our country. The dedication and skill you bring to your jobs has had a tremendous positive impact on the health, safety, and welfare of Americans, she said.
The 1997 Distinguished Executive Presidential Rank Award--the highest honor bestowed in the 7,000 member career Senior Executive Service--will be presented to 63 individuals. Each will receive $20,000. The 224 meritorious executives will receive checks for $10,000.
