CRGR Charter
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued the current CRGR Charter, Revision 7, in November 1999. In particular, this revision establishes the following CRGR roles and responsibilities:
-
The CRGR will continue to review all new and revised regulatory requirements, generic correspondence, and regulatory guidance related to nuclear power reactors (except those that require immediate action by the licensing office), as well as selected NRC staff guidance related to licensing, inspection, assessment, and enforcement.
-
The CRGR will review selected new and revised regulatory requirements, generic correspondence, and regulatory guidance related to nuclear materials, fuel cycle facilities, and spent fuel transportation and storage, as well as related NRC staff guidance.
-
The CRGR will review inspection or enforcement guidance, either be at the specific request of the NRC staff or by the CRGR's own initiation, focusing on guidance for major rulemakings, especially when the proposed guidance involves significant departures from the use of risk-informed approaches.
-
The CRGR will continue to advise the EDO regarding whether to approve or disapprove the staff's proposed backfits, contingent on whether such backfits are appropriately justified based on the backfit provisions of applicable NRC regulations and the Commission's backfit policy.
