Senate Confirms Howard Weizmann as New Deputy Director for OPM

Brings Nearly Three Decades of Experience to Federal Government's HR Agency

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director Linda M. Springer today announced the United States Senate has confirmed Howard Weizmann of Annapolis, MD as the agency's new deputy director. Weizmann was nominated by President George W. Bush to replace Dan G. Blair, who currently serves as chairman of the U.S. Postal Regulatory Commission.

"Howard Weizmann brings decades of experience and exceptional service in the human resources field to OPM, and we know he will be a valuable asset to our team," Director Springer said. "I look forward to working with Howard as OPM moves forward with a number of large initiatives - including Retirement Systems Modernization - designed to create a more efficient Federal workforce and enhance peace-of-mind among retirees and annuitants."

Mr. Weizmann most recently served as President of the Private Sector Council (PSC), part of the Partnership for Public Service, a not-for-profit organization that pairs private sector advisers with federal employees to improve agency performance management. Previously, Weizmann served as Senior Vice President for European Business Operations and Human Resources for Digex, Inc.

Prior to his tenure at Digex, Weizmann was an executive with Watson Wyatt, a management consulting firm. Weizmann also worked as an executive for Aetna Life Insurance, the American Benefits Council, and Sunoco.

Weizmann is the co-author of a book on employee engagement entitled, Rewards and Business Strategy: People, Pay, and Performance. He is an attorney by profession and earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1977. In the late 1990's he also served on the Federal City Council, a public-private partnership that examines economic problems facing the District of Columbia, and was active in the Washington Board of Trade.

He resides with his wife Jane in Annapolis and has two daughters, Brooke and Haley.
