the Representation of Hispanics in the
Federal Work Force

Washington, DC -- U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director Janice R. Lachance will address the National Conference of the League of Latin American Citizens/National Training Institute (LULAC/NTI), the largest and oldest Hispanic organization in the nation, on June 26 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel. In addition to addressing the many OPM outreach initiatives to make the workplace more diverse, she also will receive an award for her efforts and commitment to improving the representation of Hispanics throughout the federal government.

"I give many speeches all around the world, and one point I always make is that diversity in our government is not something we do only for the benefit of our minority communities; it is something we do for the good of our entire nation," said Lachance. "We value diversity because our private sector, our government, and our nation are all learning the same lesson, that diversity means strength and vitality, and that exclusion means division and weakness."

Also speaking at the conference will be OPM Deputy Director John Sepulveda. His comments will come immediately after Lachances.
