OPM Associate Director Marta Perez Discusses Emergency Preparedness with Los Angeles Federal Executive Board

Focus on ensuring preparedness of local agencies

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Office of Personnel Management Associate Director Marta Brito Perez recently addressed the Greater Los Angeles Federal Executive Board.  During the meeting, one in a planned series, Perez complimented attendees on their dedication to the American people, and the important role they play in the federal government's emergency preparedness.

"I want to thank you for the great job you do...especially in these challenging days," said Perez.  "As OPM Director James has said, the importance of emergency preparedness cannot be overstated.  The FEBs play a vital role in effectively communicating with members of the federal community to ensure that everyone is informed and safe during any emergency that may arise."

To date, OPM has provided leadership by coordinating emergency preparedness forums, conducting threat assessment and planning for the two political conventions, along with issuing preparedness surveys and guidance to federal departments and agencies.

"There is no substitute for being prepared during times of emergency," said Perez.

During recent months, OPM has sought the assistance of local FEBs in surveying local agencies to assess areas of special preparedness need, and it has continued to emphasize the Designation of Emergency Employees, Evacuation and Shelter-in-Place plans and drills, in addition to the use of human resource flexibilities such as Telework for emergency situations.
