Washington, D.C.--U.S. Office of Personnel Management Director Janice R. Lachance today announced the assignment of a Voting Rights Examiner to Colleton County, South Carolina for the local election being held there on August 22, 1998.
Voting Rights Examiners are federal employees assigned by OPM, under the authority of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, to receive complaints of racial or minority language discriminatory voting practices.
Any registered voter or other citizen of Colleton County, South Carolina who wishes to lodge a complaint of racial or minority language discriminatory voting practices may do so by calling the Examiner, Toll Free, at 1-888-496-9455 from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 22; from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 23; or from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 1998. After Monday, complaints of discrimination may be lodged with the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice by calling, toll free, 1-800-253-3931.
