Washington, D.C. Vice President Al Gore this afternoon honored 54 members of the federal governments Senior Executive Service with the Presidential Rank Award of Distinguished Executive.
The annual award recognizes governments top executives for their extended exceptional performance in government resulting in more cost-efficient service to the public and valuable contributions in leading vital federal programs.
The 54 recipients of the 1998 Presidential Rank Award of Distinguished Executive were honored by Vice President Gore in the Old Executive Office Building.
We have become not only the worlds model for democracy, but we have become the worlds pre-eminent power in military and economic strength, in scientific knowledge, in our dreams for the future, and our capacity to make those dreams come true. None of this would have come about without a self-government that works. You are the ones that make it work, said Vice President Gore.
U.S. Office of Personnel Director Janice R. Lachance said: It is a special pleasure to recognize accomplishments that go far beyond the excellent service that we deliver on a day-to-day basis to the American public. Each of you is the best of the best. You are vital to the success of our country.
In addition to the 54 Distinguished Executives, 252 members of the SES have been honored with the Presidential Rank Award of Meritorious Executive.
