The National Partnership Council was created in October 1993 by Executive Order 12871, Labor-Management Partnerships, to encourage and promote the formation of labor-management partnerships in the executive branch.
To recognize and promote outstanding and innovative partnerships throughout the executive branch, the National Partnership Council established the National Partnership Award in 1995. Since that time, the annual National Partnership Awards have showcased more than 45 partnerships.
In 1998, the National Partnership Award was renamed the John N. Sturdivant National Partnership Award in honor of the late national president of the American Federation of Government Employees.
2000 will be the sixth year in which the Council honors outstanding federal labor-management partnerships for their contributions to an improved government for the American people.
